Press Statement from Firbeck Academy

Unfortunately, on Thursday evening a major water leak was discovered at Firbeck Academy.

This leak has resulted in a loss of water to our catering and toilet facilities and because of this we were forced to temporarily close the school on Friday.

We currently have contractors on site working to fix the water supply issue and we anticipate these works will take over a week to complete.

It is never an easy decision to temporarily close a school and are very conscious of the impact this has on our children and their parents.

Given the length of the repair works at Firbeck Academy, our number one priority has been to get our children back into school as quickly as possible. Working with other schools in the Nova Education Trust, we have now moved Firbeck Academy to a temporary home at the University of Nottingham Samworth Academy (NUSA) and the school will be open to all year groups on Monday morning.

The staff at NUSA have been incredibly generous in providing buildings and classrooms at the school which will allow Firbeck to work entirely independently of the secondary school with its own separate classrooms, play areas and lunchtimes.

We are also very excited by the sporting and curriculum opportunities being offered by our colleagues at NUSA during our stay.

We currently anticipate that Firbeck will be working from its temporary location for 10 school days but the nature of emergency building works might mean this timeframe changes and we will keep parents updated via our website and Twitter feed.

More details of the arrangements for next week are available on the Firbeck School website.

Finally we would like to thank our parents and students for their continued support during our temporary stay at NUSA.
