~ September 2022 ~

Dear Parents and Carers,

A warm welcome back. I trust that you have enjoyed a lovely summer with your children. The school is again full of joy and purpose now that pupils have returned; it has been a wonderful place to be this week.

As a staff, and senior leadership team, we are continuing to strive for excellence at Firbeck Academy. In all that we do. As a Headteacher, I firmly believe that all children are entitled to high-quality education and that they can achieve anything they want though hard work and self-belief. At Firbeck, we instill self-confidence, a love for learning and good values such as tolerance and respect. Both staff and children believe in our ethos: Work Hard, Be Kind. Please support us in our journey to excellence and work with us to create an exceptional school which serves its community.

SOME EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS IN OUR CURRICULUM

· Firbeck Ukulele Band – Mr Murcutt is looking for musical enthusiasts to join his ukulele band. The end goal is to perform at various points and places including Firbeck’s (first ever) Christmas Market (details nearer the time!) and the local retirement homes.

Firbeck Digital Leaders – children will be taught the knowledge and skills required to create class-based content for social media platforms. This forms a part of our School Leaders initiative.

Firbeck Young Filmmakers – Children will be taught the full process of script to screen. Our aim is to screen the children’s film at a local cinema later this year – watch this space!

The Studio – The old Y3 classroom is now transforming into The Studio. Here is where Digital Leaders, Young Filmmakers and KS2 flute and guitar lessons will take place. It will also house our musical instruments, including Mr Murcutt’s ukuleles and our pianos/keyboards and the green screen for filming!

Free Book Each Month to our Nursery Children – To inspire reading at a young age, Mrs Mitchell has begun a wonderful book-gifting initiative which has already begun – please get lost in a wonderful book with your child!

Visits to Wollaton Library – About every half term, each class will visit the library and borrow a book to take home. The librarian will hold a session and/or share a story with the children too.

Wraparound Childcare – Breakfast and after-school club. Please see the office or the letter which went out on Wednesday 7th September.

· After-school clubs – See attached letter to sign up to extracurricular activities after school.

EXCITING THINGS TO COME

Firbeck’s 1st Christmas Market – This will take place on school grounds in December when it’s all about sipping hot chocolate to keep warm when it’s cold outside, while enjoying the festive cheer!

Firbeck’s 1st Film Screening – Mr Murcutt will lead on Young Filmmakers and endeavour to secure an agreement with a local cinema to screen the children’s film when it has been produced.

The Young Voices Choir – This year, Firbeck will start its own choir and take part in the magnificent Young Voices Choir – the largest school choir in the world! And perform at some of the greatest biggest arenas in the country.

EXCITING THINGS THAT WILL CONTINUE

Firbeck’s Allotment – Lunch and after-school clubs will continue. Any volunteers welcome!

Firbeck’s Library– Children will continue to enjoy books and sharing stories in our own stunning library.

Links with University of Nottingham– Children will enjoy sessions designed and put on by the university. Watch this space!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

KS2 parents – please drop off and pick up your children from the bottom playground.

All parents – please do not congregate along the pathways – it delays the children getting in and out because they are distracted by their parents to the side of their line.

All parents – please ensure your child/children comes/come to school in the correct uniform. For example, shoes should be completely black and not trainers and children should not be wearing jewellery and have their nails painted. See attached sheet on what constitutes uniform – let’s all strive for excellent standards and no less. #ProudtobeFirbeck

Thank you for your support,

Miss S Cao
